Charsadda police report progress in Maulana Idrees murder case
Police in Pakistan’s Charsadda district have reported significant progress in the investigation into the murder of Sheikh ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idrees Shaheed. District Police Officer Rifatullah Khan told journalists that Charsadda residents would soon hear “good news” regarding the arrest of suspects, Dawn reports.
Murder investigation
According to Khan, investigators are examining various aspects of the case and leads in the high-profile investigation. He stressed that such cases cannot be investigated by focusing on only one person.
The district police chief described the murder of Maulana Muhammad Idrees as a major tragedy. He also recalled that after taking office, he promised Charsadda residents to bring those responsible to justice and said he remained committed to that promise.
Khan said law enforcement officers are following the necessary investigative procedures to reach the likely killers. Investigators are also trying to identify a possible group that, according to their information, may be linked to the crime, as well as other individuals who may be involved.

According to him, police are identifying elements that may be linked to this case and other high-profile targets. He did not disclose details, explaining that doing so could harm the investigation.
Dispute among PTI supporters
Separately, disagreements have emerged in Charsadda among workers and supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. A banner displayed during a party meeting concerning the September 27 programme did not feature a photograph of party founder Imran Khan, although it showed several lawmakers and party leaders.
The absence of the photograph was criticized by the PTI youth wing, the party’s ideological supporters, and members of the Insaf Labour Wing. Gul Nawaz Khan, head of the Insaf Labour Wing’s Charsadda chapter, said the issue concerned not only a photograph but also the party’s ideology, loyalty, and identity.
National Assembly member Fazal Mohammad Khan also spoke at the meeting about the September 27 programme and urged supporters to travel to Islamabad while taking measures to avoid injuries or detention. Photographs of the banner are being shared on social media, where they have sparked discussion among PTI supporters.
