Nigerian police report arresting 699 suspects and seizing 31 weapons
Police in Ebonyi State in southeastern Nigeria said they had arrested 699 suspects in connection with 372 cases from April 2026 to the present. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, State Police Commissioner Hope Okafor presented the results of operational work at a press conference in Abakaliki.
Arrests and cases
According to Okafor, those arrested included 660 men and 39 women. She said that 309 suspects had been charged in connection with 162 cases. Investigations into the remaining cases are ongoing.

Seizures and increased monitoring
Police also reported seizing 31 firearms of various types, 33 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, and three vehicles. According to the commissioner, law enforcement officers intensified surveillance and intelligence measures in known hotspots across the state.
Okafor said personnel had been deployed to those locations to prevent breaches of the peace and ensure residents' safety. According to her, these measures helped significantly reduce the number of clashes in the state. Police, she added, will continue operations to identify, arrest, and bring to justice individuals involved in kidnappings, murders, and other violent crimes.
