South Korean police find additional remains of Chinese student
Police in the city of Gyeongsan in southeastern South Korea have found additional remains of a 25-year-old Chinese citizen. According to law enforcement authorities, the woman may have been killed and dismembered, and the suspect in the case is a 31-year-old Chinese national surnamed Jeong, who worked part-time as an instructor at one of the universities in the Gyeongsan area. The remains were found on Saturday while searching locations indicated by the suspect, Korea Herald reports.
The search for remains continues
Police said that Jeong is relatively cooperative with the investigation and is identifying locations where, according to him, he disposed of the remains. Investigators believe that after the alleged killing and dismemberment of the woman at his residence in Gyeongsan, he scattered the remains across several locations.
Law enforcement authorities stressed that they will not stop searching after finding remains in one location, as they must check all possible areas. Police assume that they may not be able to find all the remains before transferring the case materials to the prosecution.
Investigators have also obtained GPS data on the suspect's movements and are reconstructing his actions before and after the alleged crime. Police have not disclosed details of Jeong's testimony or a possible motive.

Case circumstances
According to the investigation, the woman had previously attended one of Jeong's courses. At the beginning of the month, she returned to South Korea from China to attend a graduation ceremony. She was last seen on August 20, when she entered the suspect's residence.
Investigators believe the remains may have been transported to several locations, including Gyeongju and Gunpo in Gyeonggi Province. Surveillance cameras recorded Jeong leaving the residence wearing women's clothing and traveling to Dongdaegu Station. According to investigators, he turned off the woman's phone there in an attempt to create the impression that she was still alive.
Jeong later reported her disappearance himself, calling the woman his girlfriend. He is also being investigated on suspicion of obstructing the performance of official duties over an allegedly false report. The suspect refused a psychopathy assessment that police had planned to conduct with the participation of two criminal profilers. Law enforcement authorities plan to continue analyzing evidence and verifying his testimony, and the case may be transferred to the prosecution next week.
