Victoria Police interview four men in case linked to Sydney Swans

Detectives from Victoria Police have interviewed four men from Sydney as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual assault linked to the Sydney Swans Australian rules football club. As ABC News reports, investigators travelled to New South Wales this week and completed interviews with the four men.

Who investigators interviewed

Police spoke with a 26-year-old man from Randwick, a 30-year-old man from Maroubra, a 25-year-old man from Randwick and a 25-year-old man from Paddington. No one was arrested and no charges have been laid in the case.

Law enforcement officers also said they have already spoken, or will speak, with three men whom investigators believe were also in the hotel room. They are currently being treated solely as witnesses.

Case circumstances

The allegations concern events that occurred in the early hours of 17 August at a hotel in the East Melbourne area. According to ABC News, several adult entertainers allegedly joined Sydney Swans players at the Pullman hotel, located opposite the MCG stadium. Three women later reported the matter to police.

The club suspended five players — vice-captain Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, James Jordon, Riley Bice and Nick Blakey — over breaches of club standards regarding alcohol consumption and bringing women to the hotel after the Round 23 match against Essendon.

Police believe they have identified all people who were in the room during the alleged incident. The investigation is ongoing, and Victoria Police said it does not expect further updates in the case for approximately eight weeks.
