German police placed on highest alert over attempts to sabotage power grids
German police have been placed on the highest alert amid reports of attempts to sabotage power grids across the country and following an attempted drone attack on Leipzig Airport. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
According to German media, there was an attempt to cause a short circuit at an energy facility in Dormagen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Law enforcement officers received a letter whose author claimed responsibility for the incident.
A threatening letter
The letter also contained a threat of a new attack on an energy facility. A police representative said that law enforcement teams searched the area because of this.

The author of the letter named the fight against fossil fuels as the motive. Police launched a large-scale search, as they believe a man from Gevelsberg may be behind the suspected acts of sabotage.
Other incidents
Access to a substation in Ganderkesee, northern Germany, was blocked due to suspicious activity. Following the attempted sabotage in Dormagen, law enforcement officers also began inspecting the Weisweiler substation near Aachen, close to the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands.
Since the start of the week, two more significant attempts to sabotage power grids have occurred in the country. In Bergheim, a substation was damaged, temporarily disconnecting lignite-fired power plant units with a total capacity of 4,200 megawatts from the grid. In Brandenburg, one of the most important high-voltage lines was damaged using devices with conductive materials.
