Poland has fined the company $5.5 million for exporting luxury cars to Russia

A company in Poland has been fined 20 million zlotys (about $5.5 million) for violating EU sanctions by illegally exporting luxury cars to Russia.

This was reported by the Polish government.

According to the investigation, in 2022–2023, the company, controlled by Belarusian citizens, purchased luxury cars in Western European countries and transported them to Russia via Poland, Lithuania, and Belarus.

This involves approximately 100 vehicles from brands such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Bentley, with a total value exceeding 49 million zlotys.

The tax service noted that this is one of the largest cases of sanctions evasion in the country.

According to the investigation’s findings, the company’s management acted knowingly and intentionally violated the restrictions.

Poland is tightening controls on compliance with sanctions, particularly regarding luxury goods, which have been banned from export to Russia since the start of the full-scale war against Ukraine.

Nine U.S. and Canadian citizens were detained in Poland after illegally entering the grounds of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Poland has decided to cancel a concert by American rapper Kanye West that was scheduled to take place in the city of Chorzów. The decision was prompted by public outcry and scandals surrounding his previous statements related to Nazism and anti-Semitic remarks.
