More than half of British citizens would vote for the country to rejoin the European Union if such a referendum were held today.

Current public sentiment reflects a dramatic shift in public opinion compared to the results of the historic vote a decade ago.

A poll conducted between May 14 and 20 among 1,137 British adults showed that 52% of respondents support rejoining the EU.

This figure is a mirror image of the results of the Brexit referendum in June 2016, when a similar number of voters voted to leave the political bloc.

Currently, nearly half of citizens support the idea of holding a new referendum, although opinions on when it should be held—before or after the next general election—are evenly split.

In the event of a hypothetical repeat vote, only 33% of those surveyed said they would vote for the UK to remain outside the EU.

At the same time, approximately one in ten citizens of the country has not yet decided on their final position on this issue.

Despite a general trend toward growing pro-European sentiment, British society remains sharply divided along age and political lines.

The younger generation of Britons largely supports overturning the Brexit results, while half of those aged 55 and older are categorically opposed to returning.

This is evidenced by the results of a recent Ipsos poll published by Bloomberg.
