Fire in Accra destroys Duraplast’s entire pipe stock — MyJoyOnline

A morning fire in Accra, the capital of Ghana, destroyed Duraplast’s entire stock of pipes at its factory warehouse in the North Industrial area of the Avenor district. This was reported by MyJoyOnline, citing the company’s marketing manager, Emmanuel Donkor.

Company losses

According to Donkor, he arrived at the office at around 6:45 a.m. and learned about a fire in an annex of the facility. Employees called the fire service, after which two fire engines arrived at the scene. However, they were unable to contain the blaze, which had already intensified significantly.

The company tried to remove the pipes from the danger zone using a forklift. Donkor explained that the products burned easily because they are made from petroleum products. The Duraplast representative described the losses as enormous.

Lack of water for firefighting

Donkor also said that the fire hydrants on Duraplast’s premises had no water at the time the fire broke out. According to him, the company asked Ghana Water for assistance in providing water to fight the fire.

The manager claims that the fire started in structures directly behind the factory wall, which he described as illegal, and then spread to Duraplast’s premises. The cause of the fire has not yet been established. At the time of reporting, firefighters were working to bring the blaze under control.
