In the United States, more than 170 Democratic organizers and campaign staffers have urged Democratic Party leaders not to accept donations from Leading the Future, a super PAC that advocates for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. The Hill reports.
Letter against LTF funding
In the letter, its authors said that millions of dollars from artificial intelligence industry executives fundamentally contradict the core values of the Democratic Party. In their view, the party should put people above unchecked regressive power, support the role of government in curbing corporate greed, and advocate for accountability and fairness in the economy.
Democratic strategist Ezra Andres-Tysh, who helped organize the signing of the letter, said the appeal is intended to facilitate discussions among campaign staff, campaign managers, and candidates about whether it is appropriate to accept such funds. According to him, campaign employees who communicate with voters can draw candidates' attention to the unpopularity of certain positions.

Funding and the super PAC's position
Leading the Future is at the center of the AI industry's campaign spending ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The super PAC has raised at least $140 million. Its donors include OpenAI President Greg Brockman, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, AI company Perplexity, and venture investor Joe Lonsdale.
The super PAC has made donations to representatives of both parties and said it seeks to promote a balanced bipartisan discussion about artificial intelligence. Leading the Future believes that the United States needs a well-designed national AI regulatory system that would include child protections, basic safety standards for advanced models, as well as increased AI awareness and worker training.
The letter emerged amid concerns about the impact of AI development on jobs, the environment, and national security. Earlier that same week, more than a dozen Democratic candidates for Congress also began urging campaigns to reject money from Leading the Future.
