Hundreds of Jews protest near New York mayor’s home in the US — Jerusalem Post
In the United States, hundreds of representatives of the Jewish community and its leaders are protesting near the home of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Participants are expressing support for Israel and seeking to draw attention to rising antisemitism in the city, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Reasons for the rally
According to the publication, the event is taking place after a series of attacks on Jews over the summer. The mentioned incidents include a knife attack near a synagogue in Manhattan’s Upper West Side and the disruption of services at Great Refrom Synagogue in August.
Rabbi Benjamin Kraus of SAR told journalists that the Jewish community has no intention of leaving the city. Organizers explained that they want to show students that they can be proud to be New Yorkers, Jews and Zionists, regardless of what others say.

Mayor’s reaction
Some parents and alumni of the Ramaz Jewish school, which helped organize part of the event, opposed it. They considered the event a political protest against Mamdani and signed a petition calling for its cancellation.
Commenting on the planned event earlier that week, Mamdani said that he welcomed the participants. According to him, they could hold a prayer gathering or a protest near Gracie Mansion. The mayor also added that he would probably be elsewhere in the city.
The event is taking place several days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to New York to address the UN General Assembly. Mamdani had previously called for Netanyahu’s arrest after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza.
