Two rescued after speedboat accident in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria, marine police rescued two people after a speedboat accident on the Ibaka waterway in the Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The incident occurred on September 17 at about 1:30 p.m.: the blue W23 speedboat named LET’S PRAY sank while traveling along the waterway.
Incident circumstances
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, according to preliminary police information, the driver was trying to adjust the outboard valve to drain water that had accumulated on board.
Akwa Ibom State police spokesperson Timfon John said that waves generated by a passing boat likely destabilized the vessel. As a result, it began taking on water.

Rescue operation
The boat’s driver and conductor were promptly rescued by marine police officers and a patrol observation team that was on duty. Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner Baba Azare commended their vigilance, professionalism and swift response.
Police urged boat operators and passengers to prioritize safety: use seaworthy vessels, avoid overloading, ensure that everyone on board has life jackets and exercise particular caution in areas with heavy water traffic.
