Russian representative to attend G20 energy meeting in the US
A representative of the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, will take part in the G20 ministerial meeting on energy, which will be held in Houston, United States, from Monday through Wednesday. The White House did not name the Russian participant.
A White House official announced the planned participation of a Russian representative, The Moscow Times reports. US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and White House official Jarrod Agen are expected to take part in the G20 meeting titled Ministerial Meeting on Energy Abundance.
Russia's previous participation in the G20
Last month, the United States hosted Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov at a meeting of G20 countries in North Carolina. It was the first time a Russian finance minister had attended a G20 forum in person since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The move caused discontent among European officials.

Officials from Europe and Asia are also expected at the energy meeting in Houston. This month, European Union auditors reported that the EU's efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas are facing difficulties amid unusually low gas reserves ahead of winter.
Energy security and sanctions
The wars in Ukraine and Iran have heightened energy security concerns for many countries. The publication notes that the price of diesel fuel in the United States exceeded $6 per gallon this week, while Iran has largely closed the Strait of Hormuz to oil and natural gas shipments.
During the G20 meeting, the US House of Representatives is likely to vote on new sanctions against Russia. At the same time, it is unknown whether the lower chamber will support the bill previously approved by the Senate. In October 2025, the administration of US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, blocking transactions with them and freezing their assets.
