Azad Jammu and Kashmir PM allocates portfolios among eight ministers
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani has allocated portfolios among eight members of the council of ministers in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan. As Dawn reports, this happened the day after a relatively small cabinet was sworn in.
According to a government notification, the appointments were made under Rule 3(4) of the revised Rules of Business, 1985. Gillani retained several key areas, likely pending elections in seven seats in the Poonch and Sudhnoti districts and a possible expansion of the cabinet.
The prime minister retained the portfolios of local government and rural development, communications and public works, finance and internal revenue, agriculture, livestock and irrigation, information and information technology, as well as planning and development.
Allocation of ministerial portfolios
Sardar Mir Akbar will be responsible for physical planning and housing, as well as the Bagh Development Authority. Waqar Ahmed Noor was assigned forestry, wildlife and fisheries, while Dr Mustafa Bashir Abbasi received the health portfolio.

Chaudhry Azhar Sadiq will oversee higher education, while Sardar Umair Naeem will be responsible for primary and secondary education. Raja Saqib Majeed received the energy and water resources portfolio, Raja Muhammad Riasat the revenue and rehabilitation portfolio. Chaudhry Abdul Rehman Araain will be responsible for tourism, industry, labour and mineral resources.
100-day programme
Following the allocation of portfolios, Gillani held a high-level meeting dedicated to the parameters and priorities of the 100-day programme. According to officials, it focuses on healthcare, education, opportunities for young people, public facilities and infrastructure.
Gillani said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government would work on a good-governance programme in line with the vision of party president Nawaz Sharif and would strive to provide the population with basic services.
