Iraqi prime minister sets disarmament deadline of June 30, 2027 — Asharq Al-Awsat
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said that armed groups must hand over their weapons to the state no later than June 30, 2027. The new deadline was announced after the end of the U.S.-led coalition's mission in the country.
New deadline
As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, on October 1 al-Zaidi described this as the beginning of serious work on the issue of weapons outside state control. According to him, the process will proceed under a clear roadmap and agreed schedule and must be completed by June 30, 2027.

Previous deadline
Previously, the initial deadline for resolving the issue of weapons held by non-state armed groups was September 30. The prime minister abandoned this deadline and moved the final date by nine months.
According to the publication, several less influential groups agreed to hand over their weapons to the state. At the same time, powerful formations close to Iran rejected this prospect or set conditions that the government is unlikely to be able to meet. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq coalition said that negotiations with the government did not result in an agreement and that it does not consider itself obliged to comply with the deadlines announced by the authorities.
