Qatar’s prime minister calls Netanyahu a war criminal — Anadolu Agency
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal. In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, he said that what has been done in the Gaza Strip constitutes war crimes, and those responsible are war criminals.
Statements on the war in Gaza
Sheikh Mohammed said that hospitals and schools had been attacked in Gaza and stressed that no explanations or arguments could justify this. As Anadolu Agency reports, he also accused Netanyahu of political attacks on Qatar. According to him, this is intended to divert attention from the actions of the Israeli prime minister himself and his government.
The head of Qatar’s government again condemned the Israeli strike on Doha on September 9, 2025, which targeted Hamas officials. According to him, five Hamas members and an employee of Qatar’s security service were killed in the strike. Sheikh Mohammed noted that Israel attacked Qatar at a time when Doha was involved in mediation and called it an unprecedented attack on a mediator. He also said that Netanyahu had “crossed the line.”

Mediation between the United States and Iran
Despite the tensions, Qatar intends to continue diplomatic mediation. Sheikh Mohammed said that non-public engagement remains the most effective way to make progress. According to him, Doha is trying to provide recommendations to the U.S. government and the Iranian side on finding a solution.
He named three issues that, in his view, need to be resolved to reduce regional tensions: Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions, freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and regional security arrangements involving Iran and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari previously said that Doha continues its mediation efforts, conveys messages between the United States and Iran, and seeks a peaceful resolution to the situation.
