Prime Minister Sharif meets President Trump in New York — Dawn
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US President Donald Trump at a reception for world leaders in New York, United States, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
As Dawn reports, Pakistan’s government Information Department released information about the meeting. The agency distributed photographs provided by the White House showing Trump and Sharif standing together, smiling and shaking hands. No other details of their interaction were reported.
Participation in the UN General Assembly session
The general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly lasted from September 22 to 26, while the closing meeting took place on September 28. Shehbaz Sharif addressed the session on September 25.

During his speech, Trump called the Pakistani prime minister a “terrific man.” On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Sharif also held bilateral meetings with other leaders, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Previous contacts between the leaders
Earlier this year, Sharif and Trump attended the first meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, chaired by the US president. Pakistan’s state-run APP agency reported that at the end of the summit, they held an informal meeting during which they shook hands and expressed mutual goodwill.
In October 2025, Sharif also met with Trump alongside other world leaders during a ceremony following the signing of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas at a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.
