Portuguese PM calls for UN Security Council seats for Africa, Brazil and India — Anadolu Agency
In Geneva, Switzerland, Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro called during the UN General Assembly for Africa, Brazil and India to be granted permanent seats on the UN Security Council. In his view, the body’s composition should better reflect a changing world, Anadolu Agency reports.
Representation on the Security Council
Montenegro also stressed the need to make the UN more flexible and effective. He called on member states to meet their financial obligations to the organization and provide it with adequate resources, including for peacekeeping missions.
According to the Portuguese head of government, his country, which will begin serving on the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member in January, will focus on preventing crises, strengthening partnerships and protecting human dignity.
