Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during an event in New York, US, that Muslims should integrate into the societies where they live but should not be assimilated. Anadolu Agency reports.

Erdogan said that there are problems related to the status of Muslims in many parts of the world, including Europe. According to him, they are often expected not only to integrate into society but also to assimilate.
The Turkish president stressed the importance of Muslims preserving their identity and ties with the community while fully participating in the life of the societies where they reside.

Participation in US elections
Erdogan also called on citizens to exercise their democratic rights during the upcoming US midterm elections and express their will at polling stations.
The event was organized by the Turkish American National Steering Committee, the Union of International Democrats, the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association, and the Council of Muslim Organizations of the United States. Erdogan urged community members to maintain unity and solidarity in their activities in the US.
