Chinese President Xi Jinping calls on US for trust and dialogue — Anadolu Agency

Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on September 24, called on Beijing and Washington to strengthen trust, maintain dialogue and preserve healthy competition.

As Anadolu Agency reports, Xi Jinping said that differences in the national conditions of the two countries do not prevent them from better understanding one another, seeking common ground and building mutual trust through frank, in-depth and sustained dialogue.

Contacts between agencies

The Chinese leader advocated intensifying contacts between Chinese and US government agencies, particularly in foreign policy, the economy, financial cooperation, law enforcement and people-to-people exchanges. He also supported expanding interaction between the legislatures of the two countries.

“We must coexist peacefully,” Xi Jinping said, adding that the two major countries can benefit from cooperation, but both will suffer losses in the event of confrontation.

Competition without confrontation

According to the Chinese president, Beijing and Washington should not avoid competition, but it must be healthy and have defined boundaries. He called for competition in which the sides catch up with each other, rather than a zero-sum confrontation in which only one side can win.

Xi Jinping also stressed the need to prevent conflict or confrontation, hold regular dialogue and improve crisis communication and crisis prevention mechanisms between the militaries of the two countries. He said that the so-called Thucydides Trap can be overcome.
