Ghana Education Service sets deadline to resolve teachers’ payment dispute — MyJoyOnline
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has set October 5 as the deadline for submitting documents needed to settle the teachers’ payment dispute. MyJoyOnline reports, citing GES Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi.
Documents for processing payments
According to Fenyi, the service is working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to resolve the issue and ensure payments to employees. Ghana’s education minister met with teachers’ unions and instructed GES and the department to prepare the necessary documentation.
The document package includes input forms, promotion letters and other required papers. The GES representative noted that the service had initially considered it possible to process employees through automatic placement, given the agreements reached at the August 31 meeting. At the same time, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department insisted on the importance of the input forms.

Deadline at 4:00 p.m.
Fenyi clarified that the 4:00 p.m. deadline applies to Monday, October 5, rather than September 28. He assured that staff at the GES headquarters continue working on the documents in order to meet the established deadline.
According to him, the figures under discussion cover both teaching and non-teaching staff. The number of teachers affected by the issue is approximately 59,000 to 60,000 people. GES also stated that it seeks to prevent disruption to the academic calendar and ensure teachers return to classrooms.
