The German president has moved into a new temporary residence
Frank-Walter Steinmeier received the keys to his temporary official residence in Berlin and has already moved there with his wife and presidential staff. The new residence is located near the Chancellery and the main train station.
The move is due to a large-scale renovation of Bellevue Palace, which is expected to last about eight years. The cost of the work is estimated at 601 million euros, with an additional 259 million euros set aside as a reserve in case of unforeseen expenses.
Steinmeier, his wife, and the presidential staff have already moved into a modern building located near the Chancellery and Berlin’s main train station.
Belvedere Palace, the president’s official residence, is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation that will take about eight years.
The cost of the work is expected to total 601 million euros, with an additional 259 million euros set aside to cover potential risks and rising construction costs.
The project also includes the presidential offices, security zones, and the adjacent park.
The six-story building features offices constructed using modular timber construction technology and boasts an impressive multicolored facade.
Steinmeier’s second and final term is set to end in 2027, long before the renovation is expected to be completed.
