UAE President Sheikh Mohamed meets Uzbek official — The National

United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed held a meeting in Abu Dhabi with Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the administration of the President of Uzbekistan. The sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries to achieve shared development goals, The National reports.

The meeting was also attended by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, UAE presidential adviser Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad, and other officials.

Saida Mirziyoyeva represented Uzbekistan at the UN General Assembly in New York this week. In her speech, she stressed the need for more effective and closer engagement between the UN and Central Asia, and stated Uzbekistan's commitment to peace and global cooperation.

Previous agreements

The UAE and Uzbekistan have been developing bilateral relations in recent years. In June 2022, the countries signed an agreement on cooperation in modernizing public administration, which covered ten sectors and provided for the exchange of knowledge and experience.

This arrangement expanded the 2019 agreement. The updated areas of cooperation included the financial sector, education, the economy, public leadership, food security and agriculture, ports and customs.

In September 2024, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. In January 2025, Sheikh Mohamed and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the signing of a declaration on strategic partnership between the states. In addition, Etihad Airways launched daily direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Tashkent last month.
