President Trump says Iran will eventually surrender — Asharq Al-Awsat

US President Donald Trump told reporters on September 29 that he does not know whether Iran is ready to surrender now, but is convinced that this will eventually happen. He also said that Iran is in a very difficult position in the war with the United States, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Blockade and oil exports

The publication writes that the US blockade has limited Iran's oil exports, which are a key source of its revenue. The economic costs of the war, according to Asharq Al-Awsat, have made life more difficult for Iranians.

Iran's president said last week during the UN General Assembly that Tehran would never capitulate under US pressure. At the same time, rising oil prices resulting from the war have become an important issue for Trump's Republican Party ahead of the US midterm elections in November.

Strait of Hormuz

According to the publication, the war has led to the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of global supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas passed before the conflict began. Asharq Al-Awsat notes that hostilities began on February 28 after US and Israeli strikes on Iran, to which Tehran responded with strikes on Israel and the Persian Gulf states.

US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon, according to the publication, have resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and the displacement of millions.
