Putin has once again accused the West of causing global instability

UA.NEWS 01 October 2026 20:25
Putin has once again accused the West of causing global instability

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that international conflicts may continue in the near future. He made these remarks on October 1 during a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club. In his speech, he also accused Western countries of exerting excessive influence on the UN and warned of the risk of a global catastrophe.

During his speech, Putin stated that the continuation of international conflicts cannot be ruled out in the near future. According to him, countries need to take practical steps to avoid scenarios that could have far-reaching consequences. “We must prevent humanity from being pushed to the brink of survival,” the Russian leader said.

He did not specify which conflicts he was referring to or what concrete steps, in his view, other countries should take. At the same time, Putin devoted a significant portion of his speech to the problems of the modern international system and the role of the UN.

The Russian leader also spoke about the need to avoid so-called catastrophic scenarios. However, he did not explain what responsibility, in his view, specific states bear for current international conflicts.

Putin Again Accused the West

Separately, Putin stated that Western countries allegedly wield disproportionately large influence within the United Nations. In his view, this creates an imbalance in the functioning of international institutions. He stated that Russia allegedly supports reforming the UN. At the same time, the Russian leader acknowledged that such changes require consensus among nations. “Russia supports fair reform of the UN, but this is impossible without consensus, which is difficult to achieve at present,” Putin said.

Thus, during his speech, he once again shifted the conversation from the Kremlin’s own policies to a broader critique of the international system. Putin framed the situation as if the problem lay primarily in the distribution of influence among countries.

At the same time, he did not offer any specific proposals in this part of his speech regarding exactly how the UN’s operations should change. His main emphasis was on the need to reach consensus and change international rules.

The Kremlin Speaks of “New Rules”

Putin also stated that modern world politics allegedly violates “every conceivable and inconceivable taboo.” According to him, states are increasingly guided by the principle that “might makes right.” The Russian leader argued that such a model of international relations cannot lead to positive outcomes. He called on countries to act in a way that prevents the situation from escalating further.

At the same time, these statements came against the backdrop of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Russian troops continue combat operations on Ukrainian territory, and Moscow regularly employs rhetoric about the need for a new order in international relations.

Therefore, Putin’s remarks about the danger of international conflicts were part of his broader speech on the future of the global system. He spoke of the need for change, but at the same time accused Western nations of creating an imbalance.

What Else Did Putin Say at Valdai?

The annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club is one of the forums where the Russian leader traditionally sets out his vision for international policy. This time, a significant portion of his remarks also concerned the UN and the global situation. Putin sought to portray Russia as a country advocating for a change in international rules. At the same time, he emphasized the need for consensus among nations.

In his remarks, he also criticized what he sees as the way states use force in international politics. However, he did not provide a specific list of countries he accuses of violating certain “taboos” in this part of his speech.

His speech was generally structured around the theme of the future international order, the role of the UN, and the risk of new conflicts. It was in this context that Putin spoke of the possibility of continued international confrontations in the near future.

Putin Speaks Again of Danger, but Without Specifics

One of the main points of Putin’s speech was that the world is allegedly approaching a dangerous threshold. He called for preventing a scenario in which humanity would find itself “on the brink of survival.” At the same time, the Russian leader did not present a concrete plan to prevent such scenarios. Instead, he spoke of the need for joint action, reforming international institutions, and seeking consensus.

Putin also linked global risks to the fact that states are allegedly increasingly acting on the principle of power. His speech included accusations against the West and criticism of the current structure of international relations.

Thus, the main themes of his speech were the possible continuation of international conflicts, the role of the UN, and the need for changes in the global system. At the same time, Putin placed a significant portion of the blame for the current situation on other states, particularly Western countries. This was reported by TASS on Telegram.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin stated that Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries have affected the sector’s operations and Russia’s economic indicators. According to him, the losses amounted to about 1% of the country’s GDP.
