The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting in response to Russia's attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
The UN Security Council will convene on Monday, June 22, for an emergency meeting to discuss the recent massive shelling of Ukraine, including the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The meeting of the international body will begin at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (10:00 p.m. Kyiv time).
Ukraine initiated the convening of this emergency meeting, as Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga had previously announced in connection with the attacks on June 15. In addition to appealing to the UN Security Council, the Ukrainian side has initiated appropriate measures to respond to Russia’s actions within the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO. The damage to the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the published photographs of the destruction have already sparked significant international outrage and became a topic of discussion during the G7 summit.
