Putin's approval rating has plummeted to its lowest level since the start of the full-scale war, according to pollsters

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval rating dropped by 5 percentage points in just one week. Russian sociologists have not recorded such a rapid decline in support since the fall of 2022, when a partial mobilization was announced in the country.

According to the Kremlin-aligned Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), 66% of respondents view Putin’s performance positively, down from 71% a week earlier. This is the lowest figure since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, the share of those who view the president’s performance negatively rose to 16%, a record high for this period.

The level of trust in Putin has also declined—from 69% to 67%. Meanwhile, 20% of respondents stated that they do not trust the Kremlin leader. Both figures are also the lowest since the start of the war.

The decline in support for the president is also confirmed by the results of a state-run VTsIOM poll. According to its data, the approval rating for Putin’s performance has been falling for the third consecutive week and currently stands at 65.1%. The trust rating has fallen to 71%, one of the lowest figures in recent years.

Pollsters have also noted a decline in assessments of the Russian government’s performance. According to FOM, only 41% of respondents view the Cabinet’s performance positively, while 37% expressed a negative opinion. Approval of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s performance has dropped to 49%.

According to analysts, one of the main reasons for the drop in approval ratings is the fuel crisis. For the second week in a row, the majority of respondents have cited the fuel shortage as the main event of the week. This issue has even surpassed the war against Ukraine and shelling of Russian territory in terms of public concern.

Another contributing factor cited is the deterioration of public economic sentiment. According to some sociological studies, Russian consumer sentiment in June fell to the level seen in the fall of 2022.
