Russia is responsible for the mines in the Black Sea — Romanian Ministry of Defense
The Romanian Ministry of Defense issued a strongly worded statement in which it named the Russian Federation as the sole party responsible for the appearance of drifting mines in the Black Sea.
This was reported by Digi24.
Bucharest rejected any attempts by the Kremlin to absolve itself of responsibility for creating a danger to international shipping.
The immediate trigger for the public debate was a post by the Romanian Defense Ministry on March 25, which highlighted the country’s successful experience in clearing maritime areas of mines.
In response, the Russian Embassy in Bucharest attempted to promote the notion that the explosive devices were of “exclusively Ukrainian origin.”
The Romanian side views such statements from Moscow as part of a targeted information campaign aimed at distorting the real causes of the threats.
Bucharest’s official position emphasizes that the root cause of all security risks in the region is Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“The mine threat in the waters is a direct consequence of the full-scale war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine,” the Romanian Ministry of Defense emphasized.
As a reminder, a civilian vessel struck a Russian mine in the Black Sea.
Additionally, dozens of partner countries have joined the coalition for humanitarian demining in Ukraine.
