Russia accused Germany of developing nuclear weapons
The German government has categorically rejected allegations by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service that Berlin is secretly developing its own nuclear weapons.
German government deputy spokesperson Steffen Meyer called such statements typical Russian disinformation. He emphasized that Germany has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, and that such accusations from the Kremlin are intended to discredit a key ally of Ukraine, sow fear among Europeans, and influence upcoming regional elections in Germany.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, explained that the Russians are spreading such falsehoods to create a propaganda “alibi.” In this way, the Kremlin is attempting to justify its own nuclear threats against Europe and NATO by shifting the blame for the escalation onto Western politicians.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service launched another wave of disinformation, accusing Western countries of secretly transferring nuclear components to Kyiv.
As a reminder, Zelenskyy called for Ukraine to be given back its nuclear weapons if it is not admitted into NATO.
The U.S. has also begun discussing the possibility of returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine.
