China-ASEAN yuan settlements reach 9.44 trillion yuan

In China, the volume of cross-border yuan receipts and payments between the PRC and ASEAN countries amounted to 9.436 trillion yuan in 2025, or about $1.41 trillion. This is 5.99% more than a year earlier, ECNS reports, citing a report by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region branch of the People's Bank of China.

Settlements for goods trade

Cross-border yuan settlements for goods trade transactions between China and ASEAN reached 2.591 trillion yuan, equivalent to $386.1 billion. Compared with 2024, this figure increased by 6.29%.

According to the report, ASEAN has long been among the leading regions in the use of the Chinese yuan in cross-border transactions. The document links this to the deepening of China's trade, investment and financial ties with the association's countries.

Payment infrastructure

In 2025, the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System, CIPS, added 41 participants. Banks for clearing yuan transactions have been established in six ASEAN countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos and Cambodia.
