Rubio Does Not Plan to Run for U.S. President in 2028, According to NBC News
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he currently has no plans to run for president of the United States in the 2028 election.
Media outlets note that Marco Rubio is one of the few high-ranking officials in the U.S. administration who is not attending the Republican National Convention in Dallas. Instead, the Secretary of State is on a diplomatic visit to Colombia.
When asked about his presidential ambitions, Rubio emphasized that he is currently focused on fulfilling his duties within the administration.
When asked if he dreams of becoming president of the United States, the Secretary of State replied:
“Well, I don’t know what the future holds for me, but at the moment I have no such plans. I am 100% focused on my job,” Rubio said.
According to an NBC News source familiar with the situation, Rubio has already considered the possibility of running in the presidential election and currently has no plans to run.
At the same time, the source told the publication that the secretary of state “left the door open” for such a possibility in the future.
Thus, Rubio is not currently declaring his intention to run in the 2028 presidential election, but he has not definitively ruled out such a scenario.
He made these remarks during a diplomatic trip to Colombia while answering a journalist’s question about whether he is considered one of the strongest potential candidates from the Republican Party.
