Romania scrambled F-18 fighter jets in response to an airspace violation
Romania scrambled two F-18 fighter jets after detecting an aerial target and a violation of its airspace.
The country’s Ministry of Defense radar surveillance systems detected the object on September 8 at 4:47 p.m., 18 kilometers north of the city of Roman, after which an air raid alert was issued in several towns to monitor the situation.
This is stated in a press release from the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
Although the Romanian Defense Ministry did not specify the type of aerial object, authorities in neighboring Moldova stated that at approximately 4:20 p.m., a drone entered its territory; according to preliminary data, it was a “Shahed” jet drone.
In Romania, on the morning of August 30, an air raid alert was declared in part of Tulcea County due to an unknown aerial target near the border with Ukraine. To monitor the situation, the Romanian military scrambled two F-16 fighter jets.
On the evening of Monday, August 24, Romania scrambled two F-18 fighter jets from the Spanish Air and Space Forces after detecting two aerial targets moving toward the Romanian border.
