São Paulo ranked eighth in the list of cities for digital nomads
São Paulo, Brazil, ranked eighth among 104 cities in a ranking of destinations for digital nomads, scoring 66.67 points. It is the only city in Latin America to make the top ten, according to The Rio Times.
Seoul took first place with a score of 73.60, followed by Tokyo and Hanoi. The top 10 also included Taipei, Osaka, Barcelona, Madrid, Nagoya, and Ho Chi Minh City. Four of the top 10 spots were taken by Japanese cities.
São Paulo received the same score as Madrid but ranked lower than the Spanish capital. According to The Rio Times, the ranking was compiled based on the density of coworking spaces, the number of entertainment and cultural venues, national internet speeds, local prices, and weather conditions. However, the weighting of each criterion was not disclosed.

The weather indicator included days with temperatures ranging from 15 to 28 degrees Celsius and precipitation of less than 5 mm. The publication also notes that the ranking did not include factors such as safety, travel times within the city, and visa availability.
The ranking was compiled by a Japanese VPN comparison website, and its results were reported by Euronews. The Rio Times notes that the original study was not publicly available. Since 2022, Brazil has offered a visa for digital nomads: it is issued for one year with the option of one renewal to applicants who can confirm remote employment or contracts with a company outside Brazil, as well as a minimum income or bank balance.
