Saudi Arabia joins G20 meeting on Ebola response — Asharq Al-Awsat

In New York, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Health for International Cooperation, Nouf Alnumair, represented Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers on strengthening joint action against Ebola. The event took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

International coordination

As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, citing the Saudi Press Agency, the meeting was attended by representatives of G20 countries, invited states, international organizations, as well as senior officials from countries affected by the Ebola outbreak.

Participants discussed strengthening international coordination, accelerating joint efforts to contain the outbreak, supporting response measures in affected countries, and reinforcing health systems. The aim of these actions was described as reducing virus transmission and preventing its spread across borders.

Support for affected areas

During the discussions, participants emphasized the need to unite international efforts to address cross-border health threats. Areas of support for affected regions included epidemiological surveillance, diagnostics, on-the-ground response, and capacity building. Participants also raised the issue of strengthening coordination among governments, international institutions, and health organizations, as well as regional and international preparedness for health threats.
