Saudi minister discusses Gaza in New York — Asharq Al-Awsat
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan took part in several meetings in New York, United States, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. In particular, he joined a coordination meeting of the foreign ministers of the Group of Eight Arab-Islamic states, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
The situation in Gaza
Participants in the meeting discussed the serious deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and increasing violations in the West Bank. The ministers also considered coordinating efforts and positions to mobilize international support for the protection of the Palestinian people and advance the Palestinian issue in international forums.
Faisal bin Farhan also participated in the sixth meeting of the foreign ministers of the Regional Quartet. It was attended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, as well as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

Regional coordination
The Regional Quartet meeting discussed regional developments and strengthening coordination and cooperation among the group’s states. Participants stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, limit the consequences of regional crises, and preserve security and stability.
Separately, the Saudi minister met with Muhammad Ishaq Dar. They discussed bilateral cooperation, the latest regional developments, and diplomatic ways to contain tensions. Following the talks, the sides signed an agreement on mutual exemption from short-term visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and special passports.
In addition, Faisal bin Farhan took part in ministerial meetings between the Gulf Cooperation Council states and Switzerland and France. Talks with France addressed regional developments, their impact on security and stability, and issues on the UN General Assembly agenda.
