Senator Capito urges President Trump to end the war with Iran — The Hill
In the United States, Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia said that President Donald Trump should end the war with Iran. In an interview with NewsNation, she said that the conflict, which has already lasted seven months, is frustrating Americans, particularly because of rising fuel prices.
Call to end the conflict
As The Hill reports, Capito recalled that Trump initially described the war as short-term. According to her, Americans expected the fighting to end sooner, but that did not happen.
When asked whether she would advise Trump to end the war immediately, the senator answered affirmatively. She also said that Republican Party candidates are using the issue of the conflict in their campaigns. The Hill notes that support for the war among Republican lawmakers is weakening.

Strait of Hormuz and fuel prices
Capito said that, in her view, opening the Strait of Hormuz is a move in the right direction and that economic pressure on Iran is beginning to produce results. She referred to reports saying that the strait has become more open than before.
According to The Hill, Iranian authorities effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz after the conflict began on February 28. About 20% of the world's oil is exported through this route. According to AAA, the average price of gasoline in the United States reached $4.48 per gallon on Monday.
Last week, Iranian negotiators offered the United States a seven-day peace initiative that would provide for opening the strait and a ceasefire. Trump rejected the proposal on Saturday and said the following day that he expected further talks between U.S. officials and the Iranian side this week.
