Campaign says Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was attacked
In Canfield, Ohio, United States, an attack occurred during a campaign event at the Canfield Fair targeting Democratic Party candidate for governor Amy Acton. According to The Guardian World, her campaign said that an armed attacker rushed toward Acton. Several people were injured in the incident, while the candidate herself was unharmed.
Suspect detained
Mahoning County Democratic Party Chair Chris Anderson said that the suspect knocked volunteers to the ground before being arrested. According to Anderson, a weapon was found on the suspect after the detention.
Acton's campaign communications director, Addie Bullock, said that the candidate was grateful to law enforcement for their swift actions and was praying for the recovery of those injured. She also said that violence has no place in Ohio. In a photo published on social media by a fair visitor after the incident, Acton is checking on one of the injured people.

Rivals' reaction
Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, who is competing with Acton in the Ohio gubernatorial election, called the incident unacceptable. His communications director, Connie Luck, said that candidates must be able to meet with voters without threats and violence.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate from Michigan Abdul El-Sayed also condemned the attack, stating that political violence is unacceptable. Fairgrounds police redirected inquiries to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department, which did not provide an immediate comment.
