Swedish intelligence foiled a Russian operation aimed at discrediting Sweden, NATO, and the EU
The Swedish Security Service (SAPO) announced that it had foiled an operation by Russian foreign intelligence aimed at gathering information on the country’s decision-making processes. The Russians’ goal was to conduct influence operations, undermine domestic political processes, and discredit Sweden, NATO, and the EU.
According to the security service, an agent working at one of the foreign diplomatic missions was involved in the intelligence activities. SAPO uncovered the scheme in time and took measures to protect the country’s critical assets and neutralize further Russian influence.
