The U.S. Will Review the Deployment of Its Troops in Europe — Reuters
The Pentagon plans to complete its review of the deployment of U.S. troops in Europe by November 6.
According to Reuters, the results of this analysis are expected to present U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagseth with at least four possible courses of action.
U.S. NATO allies are concerned that the six-month review, announced by Washington in June, will lead to massive cuts of approximately 80,000 U.S. troops across Europe and “punish” countries that, in President Donald Trump’s view, did not support the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
According to a senior Pentagon official, the U.S. plans to develop a full range of detailed options regarding its presence in Europe, underscoring the seriousness of this process.
“We want to be able to discuss all the pros and cons of different levels or deployments of forces,” he said in comments to Reuters.
However, it is unclear whether these details will convince European officials, who are skeptical of the review process and privately express concern that Washington’s decision is all but made.
