The U.S. will strengthen its military presence in Estonia with a new unit
U.S. troops will continue to be stationed in Estonia on a rotational basis. A new unit of the U.S. Armed Forces is scheduled to arrive in the country as early as this summer.
Tallinn has stated that security cooperation with the U.S. will continue, and the presence of U.S. troops will remain a key element in strengthening the country’s defense.
Pevkur assured that the rotational presence of U.S. forces in Estonia is not ending.
The minister attributed the temporary “vacuum” in the presence of U.S. troops to a scheduling overlap and an audit initiated by the Pentagon.
“When the previous rotation began to depart and the new one was due to arrive, this process coincided with the Pentagon’s announcement of the start of a six-month audit. All processes were suspended because it was necessary to determine exactly which unit would arrive and how everything would be organized. We have now agreed that the rotations will continue: there is clarity for the duration of the review, and once it is completed, there will be certainty for a longer period,” Pevkur noted.
According to him, Estonia and the U.S. have agreed that the rotation will continue.
The minister emphasized that it is important for Estonia to avoid any interruptions in the presence of U.S. troops in the country.
