Iranian representatives will also be prohibited from purchasing luxury items and certain other goods in accordance with U.S. policy. Thus, permission to participate in the General Assembly does not lift other restrictions that the U.S. imposes on Iranian representatives.
The delegation will be smaller
A State Department spokesperson also noted that this year’s Iranian delegation will be smaller than last year’s. “This year’s delegation is smaller than last year’s,” he said. The UN General Assembly traditionally brings together representatives of countries from around the world in New York. For Iran, this year’s trip to the U.S. will take place against the backdrop of tense relations with Washington. Despite this, the U.S. side has confirmed that an Iranian delegation may travel to participate in the UN General Assembly, according to Reuters.
