Lufthansa Group orders 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft — AeroTime
Lufthansa Group has ordered 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft to replace older Airbus A320-family aircraft. Deliveries of the new aircraft are expected to begin in the early 2030s, AeroTime reports.
Options under the 2023 contract
On September 17, 2026, the group announced that it had exercised options included in its 2023 order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Following the new deal, Lufthansa Group's total firm orders for MAX-family aircraft reached 60 units.
Lufthansa Group estimated the list value of the order for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft at approximately $3.4 billion. The company did not disclose the agreed price. It also did not specify which airlines within the group would receive the aircraft.
Efficiency and fleet replacement
Lufthansa Group expects the Boeing 737 MAX 10 to consume approximately 30% less fuel than the aircraft they will replace. According to the group, the larger cabin capacity will make it possible to reduce unit costs by approximately 20%.

Lufthansa Group has allocated all 40 previously ordered Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to Eurowings. In January 2025, Eurowings said it would receive the aircraft between 2027 and 2032 to replace Airbus A319s and older Airbus A320s. The MAX 8 configuration for the carrier provides for 189 seats, 39 more than on its Airbus A319. The company also cited Boeing's longer range as an advantage for expanding its network of medium-haul routes.
MAX 10 certification
The Boeing 737 MAX 10 still requires certification by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said on September 16 that testing had been completed and that the company had moved to the documentation stage. He did not name an approval date.
Under its fleet renewal program, Lufthansa Group expects to receive more than 250 new aircraft by 2035.
