The U.S. launched strikes against Iran following the downing of an American helicopter

The United States launched a new series of strikes against Iranian military targets following the incident in which an American AH-64 Apache helicopter was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the start of the strikes in a post on social media. According to the command, the attack began at 5:00 p.m. Washington time (midnight Kyiv time) – on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief.

“The mission is a proportionate response to Iran’s unprovoked aggression,” the CENTCOM statement said.

Pro-Iranian media reported explosions in the cities of Kohestak, Sirik, and Minab in southeastern Iran.

President Donald Trump commented on the strikes during a live broadcast on ABC News.

“I believe the response must be very strong, very powerful—and that is exactly what it is,” Trump said, clarifying that the orders were given directly in connection with the downing of a helicopter last night.

CNN reported this.

Earlier, Trump stated that Iran had agreed to the U.S. demand not to develop nuclear weapons.

Trump also mentioned the Apache helicopter shot down by Iran and threatened a U.S. response.

Prior to this, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries and damaged U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. efforts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.
