The U.S. has lifted sanctions against former Russian Finance Minister Zadornov

The United States has removed former Russian Finance Minister Mikhail Zadornov from its sanctions list.

This was announced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Zadornov had been under sanctions since 2022, when he headed Otkritie Bank.

In 2024, he filed a lawsuit in a U.S. court seeking to have the restrictions lifted, arguing that there were no grounds for imposing them.

Zadornov served as Russia’s finance minister from 1997 to 1999.

The U.S. has temporarily lifted sanctions on several Russian vessels so they can complete unloading of oil loaded before March 12. This applies to container ships and tankers flying the Russian flag that were already en route. New shipments and transactions with Iran remain prohibited.

War fatigue and high taxes are also among the main reasons for Russians’ dissatisfaction. Russians’ trust in the government and key state institutions is steadily declining.
