Starmer calls an emergency meeting over rising living costs amid the conflict with Iran
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold an emergency meeting next week with key ministers and Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey to discuss measures to support the public amid rising living costs.
This was reported by Reuters.
The reason is the rise in global energy prices amid U.S. and Israeli operations against Iran, which has increased economic pressure on the British government.
Starmer previously stated his intention to support the most vulnerable segments of the population, whose financial difficulties have worsened due to the situation in the Middle East.
As part of its initial measures, the British government announced the allocation of 53 million pounds (about $70 million) to assist households most affected by rising heating oil costs.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the country is prepared to join military operations in the Middle East only if there is a clear plan and a legal basis.
Meanwhile, France is sending an aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean Sea.
