According to Stubb, the first reason is the situation on the front lines, where, in his view, Ukraine currently holds a stronger position than Russia.
“Ukraine’s position is currently strong, while Russia’s is weak. One could say that Ukraine is largely winning this war, and Russia should be interested in starting a dialogue,” he stated.
The Finnish president cited Europe’s own interests as the second reason.
“If you’re not at the table, you’ll be eaten at that table,” Stubb said.
He added that it is too early to discuss the format of such a dialogue or specific representatives, but emphasized that Europe must be involved in discussions on the path to peace. According to him, the primary goal should be to achieve a ceasefire.
