A German court has ruled that an Iraqi man who pushed a 16-year-old Ukrainian girl in front of a train is not criminally responsible
A regional court in Göttingen has ordered a 31-year-old Iraqi national to undergo compulsory treatment at a psychiatric hospital. The man was found not criminally responsible due to paranoid schizophrenia, although it was fully established that he had murdered a Ukrainian woman.
This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
The tragedy occurred on August 11, 2025, at the train station in the German city of Friedland, where the defendant pushed the woman in front of a train. Despite the perpetrator’s attempts to pass off the crime as an accident, DNA analysis revealed his traces on the victim’s clothing. Law enforcement officials determined that the attacker grabbed the girl before she ended up on the tracks.
The man had previously been denied asylum in Germany and was to be deported to Lithuania, but he remained in the country due to a court ruling. At the time of the murder, he was staying at a refugee center. Russia’s crimes and aggressive behavior on the international stage often serve as a backdrop for complex migration processes in Europe. Currently, the court’s decision mandates the man’s indefinite stay in a specialized facility under medical supervision.
We previously reported that authorities in Friedland, Germany, are investigating the murder of a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Ukraine, who was pushed under a freight train on August 11, 2025.
As a reminder, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee was killed in the U.S.
Also, in Belgium, the wife and daughter of a Ukrainian soldier were killed.
