Pakistan court admits petition over detention of 24 PTI representatives — Dawn

The Lahore High Court, Multan bench, Pakistan, has admitted for hearing a petition concerning the detention of 24 officials, leaders and activists of the PTI party from Sahiwal tehsil under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO).

The court ordered Sahiwal Deputy Commissioner Samiullah Farooq to submit a report by September 24. Dawn reports on the court’s decision.

Detention for 30 days

According to the publication’s sources, around 47 PTI activists and officials were detained and sent to Sahiwal Central Jail for 30 days. The decision was made under Section 3 of the MPO Ordinance on the orders of the deputy commissioner.

The petition was filed on behalf of 24 party leaders and activists. They include Bahawal R. Sher, Javed Iqbal, Shoaib Khalid, Tanveer Hussain, Muhammad Kaleemullah, Muhammad Nazir, Muhammad Azhar, Tahir Naseem, Pervez Akhtar, also known as Tahir Pervez, Agha Qamar Abbas, Zahoor Ahmad, Mansoor Iftikhar Hashmi, Mahmood Iftikhar Hashmi, Usama Abrar, Muzaffar Ali, Muhammad Khalil, Mian Muhammad Sarwar, Fazal Karim, Muhammad Jameel, Hasan Abbas, Qamar Sial, Majid and Khalid Mahmood.
