Tajikistan Is Shifting Away from Russian Fuel in Favor of Iran — Reuters

Tajikistan has requested that Iran supply 2.5 million metric tons of oil and petroleum products. This was prompted by a fuel crisis in Russia, which traditionally supplied Tajikistan with fuel but is now facing a shortage itself.

A statement published on the website of the Tajik Ministry of Transport notes that the country is ready to purchase 2.55 million metric tons of oil and petroleum products from Iran, including 2 million metric tons of crude oil, 150,000 metric tons of gasoline, 300,000 metric tons of diesel, and 100,000 metric tons of jet fuel.

The statement does not specify the delivery dates.

Tajikistan traditionally imports up to 80% of its petroleum products from Russia, though the country also has close cultural and linguistic ties with Iran.

Russia has been facing a fuel shortage in recent months as Ukraine attacks its oil refineries.

In July, Tajikistan’s energy minister stated that the government was negotiating with Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Iraq, and Belarus regarding additional shipments of petroleum products.

Russia has imposed bans on the export of diesel fuel, gasoline, and jet fuel to stabilize the domestic fuel market. Intergovernmental supply agreements are exempt from this ban.

This was reported by Reuters.

Iran has exported $18 billion worth of oil during the conflict with the U.S., according to Al Jazeera.

On July 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed intelligence agencies to share information with international partners about possible new Russian support for the Iranian regime.

After 13 days of new military strikes against Iran, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a halt to the attacks.
