Thousands urge government to promote Jewish settlements in Gaza — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, thousands of people traveled in convoys from the Yad Mordechai junction to the area near the northern border of the Gaza Strip, urging the government to promote the establishment of Jewish settlements in Gaza. Participants included public figures, ministers and Knesset members, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Nahala movement action

The demonstration was organized by the Nahala movement together with other right-wing organizations under the slogan “Choose victory, settle Gaza.” The convoys gathered near Yad Mordechai at 14:00 and headed toward the northern part of the Gaza Strip and the Netzarim area.

The organizers said that, amid what they described as the failure of various diplomatic initiatives, they were appealing to the prime minister to support a civilian presence and control over the territory. They consider this a way to achieve a long-term security settlement.

Participants’ statements and planned rally

Nahala leader Daniella Weiss stated that the image of victory in the war, in her view, involves returning to all territories that she called the land of Israel and settling the Gaza Strip with Jews. She also said that convoy participants brought caravans and equipment to remain at the site.

Movement chairman Zvi Elimelech Sherbaf stated that the aim of the action was to support the further development of settlements. He also spoke out against deploying international forces, claiming that this would pose a threat to residents of southern Israel and the state.

A central rally involving ministers and public figures was scheduled for 16:00 at an observation point near the northern part of the Gaza Strip. The organizers also planned to set up a sukkah and arrange overnight accommodation near the border, including activities for families.
