Trump wants to increase the U.S. defense budget to a record $1.5 trillion
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to ask Congress to sharply increase defense spending.
Bloomberg reports this.
The proposed budget amounts to $1.5 trillion, which would represent one of the largest increases in modern U.S. history.
Of this amount, $1.1 trillion is earmarked for the Pentagon’s basic needs, with an additional $350 billion allocated for expenses related to the war with Iran.
At the same time, the administration is proposing to cut domestic programs by approximately 10%, or $73 billion.
The budget issue is expected to spark serious political debate ahead of the U.S. elections.
During the war against Iran, the U.S. military deployed hundreds of Tomahawk cruise missiles and over a thousand JASSM air-to-ground missiles.
Israel has resumed bombing the southern suburbs of Beirut and continues airstrikes in southern Lebanon. One of the strikes hit an army checkpoint, killing a soldier.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also warned that any attempts to destabilize the country will be decisively stopped. The authorities are prepared to act decisively, including through arrests and the seizure of weapons. Aoun emphasized that no one in Lebanon wants a civil war, and those who try to take advantage of the situation will fail.
